Bellingham is often referred to the home of subdued excitement!
This is the dominant civic, cultural and financial area of Bellingham. It includes many areas such as Old Town where there are several antique shops, restaurants and bars. Railroad Ave has a variety of shops, restaurants, funky shops and a feed store. The Arts area includes Mount Baker Theater, Pickford and several book and video shops. The waterfront includes Squalicum Harbor, Zuanich Park, and is managed by the Port of Bellingham. It includes many fine restaurants with great water views. 137 acres of waterfront is in the process of building homes, condos, businesses, and shops in the Waterfront area. You will enjoy seeing many boats moored and visiting the harbor.
Bellingham is known for its beer and enjoyed many awards for the distinctive flavors the breweries create. This is a major joy to the students of our Western University and the other colleges.
Arts in Bellingham City Center
The Mount Baker Theater is in downtown Bellingham and the largest performing arts center north of Seattle. It is beautifully restored and listed on the register of the National Historic Places. Bellingham also enjoys the Pickford Film Center and Limelight Cinema that features film of various venues. The Upfront Theater was established by Ryan Stiles, the improve guru, and has improve shows Thursday through Saturday night. This cabaret theater affords a good time.
Whatcom Museum is located downtown and has various exhibitions of art and Northwest history. Included is the Light catcher building with a family interactive gallery that is enjoyed by young and old. Bellingham has an Art Walk on Friday evenings throughout the year where you can enjoy many of our local artists.
